i bought katamari reroll 2 yesterday and have been playing that for a good bit- i always forget how much i love katamari but how much it also frustrates me as well. aside from that, my brothers birthday is tomorrow! hell be 11- it feels like just yesterday he was turning 1, and its crazy. now i see why all my relatives i never saw often used to gush about how much ive grown lol. its daunting but exciting, and he wants to get kbbq for dinner so well be doing that in the evening. ive also been meaning to play killer frequency for a while now, i have it downloaded and everything. i keep saying "tonight's the night! im finally gonna boot it up and get playing!" and then i pick up my switch for the next four hours. a bit frustrating, but not a bad problem to have.

i went to go see the new spiderverse movie with my dad and brother yesterday- it was really enjoyable. my brother has issues keeping quiet during movies because he always wants to make quips but he got into it eventually, and he did enjoy it along with us which i was glad for. aside from that, im formulating some ideas for a crochet project in my head, but i need to find the appropriate eyes to use for it which is the hard part. so many safety eyes are either full black or an animal sort of eye, when i need something thats full blue. so that'll be something im on the look out for, i suppose. ive also been looking into getting some cute scissors to use rather than the old pair i stole in high school, but im still trying to save money so ill have to wait :/ quite sad. i also need to get a birthday gift for my girlfriend's little brother, and i have a general idea of what to get him, but i need to wait til i get my check... so much on the mind lately!

ive been home alone for the past week but sadly it has come to an end. quite sad. aside from that, ive had a lot less hours at my work lately (the manager implies its bc we arent making enough money to pay everyone (me specifically) a larger check but i know its so she can keep more for herself) but aside from that ive not been doing much. i started watching lucky star for fun since i remember it being big(?) when i first started using the internet around '09-ish. its been kind of entertaining but i dont know how im expected to believe those thangs are 17-18 years old. still fun though, i catch moments i remember seeing in memes back then and its neat to recognize them. ive also been playing a lot of splatoon! summer may be horrifically hot, but it does leave me more time to do the things i want to do since work gets so slow

first entry of july lol oops! i havent really been busy but ive been preoccupied with other stuff. i havent been watching lucky star much as ive been preoccupied with gaming- i found out how to get more games for my ps2 and now ive got such a large selection of games im not sure where to start. im planning on playing shadow tower abyss but i want to watch a playthrough of shadow tower first, which is slow going. ive also been playing neon white, which ive been enjoying a lot, as ive been looking for something fast paced to play. keeping my eyes on mullet madjack as it looks really up my alley, but its release date is still TBA -^- quite sad! aside from that ive picked up house of leaves, which im slowly grazing my way through. no rush, so i just read some here and there. hope all is well

aha. uh. hey. sorry i forgot about. updating this. ive been keeping a physical journal and thats distracted me a bit. i got a bit Unwell right at the beginning of the month- various stomach issues and a wisdom tooth pushing on through. which led to my first dentist's visit in over a decade! turns out its coming in fully horizontal. and i cant really afford to get it fixed so uh. haha. :) aside from that not much has been happening. i saw last voyage of the demeter with my dad- we both enjoyed it. were wondering if they were gonna have the guts to kill their protag, neither of us were surprised they didnt lol. ive been reading the dark elf trilogy as well, and im on book two now. its been a couple days since ive read but book one was really good! ive also been practicing my cursive, since i havent even tried writing in cursive since i took the PSAT. its been rough, but im getting the hang of it, and i think its helping my regular handwriting look a bit more stable as well! so, depsite the host of issues and weirdness this month (AND THE FACT THAT ITS BEEN 100F+ FOR BASICALLY THE WHOLE MONTH) things havent been all too bad!

08/28/23

pretty good day today! started playing bomb rush cyberfunk but i definitely feel like it was designed to be played with a controller. which i cannot do currently. and cant currently afford to get it on switch either so. bleehhhh :P other than that, though, great day! it was only 96-ish today, and i spent a lot of time (compared to usual, anyways) outside relaxing. sat on the porch, saw a hummingbird. watched some wasps drink water. sat in my car for about 20 minutes listening to a peggy lee album on CD- realized they gave me the wrong CD for the case lol. i like the songs a lot, though, so i dont mind that. saw a couple dessicated frogs on my walk, so that was interesting. did a little painting. all in all, great day!

08/29/23

another good day! i didnt do a lot but i really enjoyed what i did- burnt a new CD, went to the library- i picked up the haunting of hill house which ive heard good things about! i also snagged a british film noir DVD while i was there, so ill have to give it a watch soon. i really need to go to the library more often, i always forget how much i enjoy it between my visits. i made some ground beef for dinner tonight and i really liked the way it came out- my aunt clearly was on the fence about the seasonings (i didnt tell her i added a little curry powder to it) but i thought it was great!

i feel like my drastic lift in mood is just confirming my suspicions of having some kind of seasonal affective disorder or something in that niche. today was good though! ive been reading legends and lattes at my dads recommendations- really good! i like low stakes and its an enjoyable read thus far. im planning on checking out the british noir films tonight, too, if i can get either the ps2 or the 360 to cooperate with me. 360 is hooked up to the big tv but its kind of a hassle to get to it lol. did some crochet, listened to some tunes, at some good food. happy times :)

09/04/23

saw my brother and dad today, we hung out for a few hours! it was nice :) got a new jazz cd, so i listened to the first few tracks of that. its really good, so ill probably have that be my next "sitting in the car to read" CD, though a lot of the tracks are 6+ minutes compared to the shorter music ive been playing thus far. but maybe that will entice me to read longer! im still looking for a physical copy of Exile, because while i CAN read it on my phone, im finding that i really do prefer physical books over tablet/phone reading. i like the distinction, and i like how books smell. its getting hotter again, and ive been feeling a bit more tired, but it might even cool down to 90F soon :) it even RAINED yesterday, which was so exciting! it hasnt rained in months! im glad i got to be there for it :3

09/04/23

its hotttttt today =_=' and it will be hotter tomorrow and the day after X( so im staying inside for now. hopefully the weather will cool enough to let me do my reading outside this evening.
ever since i figured out how to burn my own ps2 games ive put way too many options on my plate. very funny how armored core 2 doesn't seem to give you any direction. youre just dropped in and told to go. you already know what it is!!!!! but i sure dont lol :p but maybe one day ill try my hand at it again.

hiiiii im writing this at the library im having so much fun! ive been coming here more to have some time after work where my aunt wont heckle me about coming home so early, and ive just been looking at whatever tickles my fancy for like an hour lol. anywayzzzzzz i took a bnch of notes on incandescent lightbulbs tht im gonna drop here OwO
NOTES
  • Incandescent lightbulbs function by heating a wire until it glows. Did not know this!
  • According to google (may not be accurate) the standard lightbulb functions at 120 volts. However, they can go up to 300 volts
  • Less than 5% of the energy an incandescent lightbulb puts out becomes light- the rest is lost as heat. Very inefficient, but this does make them good as heat lamps in certain applications
  • The top of an incandescent bulb can reach temperatures of 375F, and the temperature drops as you move down the bulb
  • The heat from incandescent bulbs can be so great, that in large scale applications, they can increase strain on air conditioning systems that try to compensate for them
  • The incandescent bulb has a comparatively short lifespan of only about 1,00 hours of use, while some other bulbs can last up to 20,000-30,000 hours comparatively
  • Thomas Edison is credited as the inventor of the incandescent bulb, however other inventors have been listed as coming before him- their models however, were not quite as effective, and thus did not have as much stay on the market
  • The general concept was demonstrated as early as the 1700s, but in a particularly notable event, a man named Humphry Davy used an exceedingly large battery (said to consist of ~2,000 cells) to light a strip of platinum to incandescence. The light was not powerful enough for practical use, especially not with how much it took to produce, but this lead to precendent that the idea could in fact be viable if refined (note: platinum was picked for its extremely high melting point)
  • James Bowman Lindsey, in 1835, demonstrated a constant electric light by which he could read from roughly 18 inches out. However, he did not continue developing this after his demo
  • In 1840, Warren De la Rue used the more current model of a heated coil filament (made of platinum) enclosed in a vaccum to preserve it for longer. However, due to platinum's high cost, this was not put into large scale development
  • The patent Edison had on his lightbulbs was actually sold to him by two Candadian men (Henry Woodward and Mathew Evans) who did not see success in attempting to commericalize their lamps
  • Some of the first lamps shown to the public used carbon rods instead of filament, and required a lot of energy to be powered. They also only had about a 40 hour lifespan, but I suppose if you're used to not having a lamp at all, you could make the most of this
  • Lewis Latimer (while employed by Edison) figured a way to heat-treat carbon filaments in such a way that they were less prone to breaking, and were able to be bent in shapes, which was naturally then used for brand recognition
  • In 2007 General Motors attempted to make a high efficiency incandescent bulb (HEI) that was intended to be 2-4x more efficient but progress was slow and the project was terminated in 2008
  • Incandescent bulbs are filled with inert gas- often things like argon, nitrogen, or hydrogen. However, back in the 19th century, they could be filled with things like carbon monoxide, or mercury gas
  • Before machine automation, lightbulbs were made by hand (usually by a team of 3) and in some cases ~150 bulbs could be made per hour. In 1926 William Woods invented the Ribbon Machine, which was used to make incandescent bulbs through the 21st century. This machine could turn out 1,000 lightbulbs per minute by 1939
  • The fluorescent bulb is a more modern invention, and is baseline roughly 4x as effiecient at lighting compared to an incandescent bulb
  • Fluorescents have a higher base cost than incandescents but save money in the long run due to their efficiency. However they DO contain mercury, and as such are considered hazardous waste
  • back back
    head on back!
